Groupwise service interruption – June 13, 7:00 AM – 8:18 AM

At approximately 7:00 a.m. a GroupWise server, GWPOS3, stopped responding, affecting e-mail services for Schools (faculty and some admin staff).  The server was restarted at approximately 8:18 a.m. and service was restored.

OGF (Finance) system outage: Tuesday, June 12 2012 07:40 AM

At approximately 7:40 AM, Tuesday June 12, the OGF database server crashed due to a hardware failure. The failure affects Oracle Financials and Markview. Tech Support is currently on its way to investigate the problem. An update will be provided shortly.

UPDATE: The root cause of the problem seems to be a failed power supply on an IBM SAN switch (no redundancy supported).    IBM Support has been contacted, but the system will likely be unavailable for ~3 hours.   In the interim, technical support will investigate the possibility to move affected systems to another switch and recover systems before the failed switch is fixed.

UPDATE 2: The system will be unavailable all morning.

UPDATE 3: The vendor shipped the wrong part and the correct part is being shipped.  We now expect to recover the system by mid-afternoon.

UPDATE: The OGF & Markview services were restored just before 6:00 AM on Wednesday, June 13.

CS/RAMSS outage: Tuesday, June 12 2012 07:40 AM

At approximately 7:40 AM, Tuesday June 12, the CS/RAMSS system started experiencing problems due to a hardware failure. The failure is likely related to the OGF (Finance system problem), as both use the same SAN (Storage Area Network) for storage.   Tech Support is currently investigating the problem. An update will be provided shortly.

GroupWise web & internet access unavailable: Tuesday, June 11, 2012 10:52 PM – 11:48 PM

A failure with one of the GroupWise systems (GW1) caused the GroupWise Web & Internet mail delivery to become unavailable around 10:52 PM on Tuesday, June 11.   Services were restored at approximately 11:48 PM.

Wireless service disruption: Monday, June 11 2012 08:30 AM

At approximately 8:30AM on Monday, June 11, we became aware of an intermittent wireless connectivity problem.  Following a preliminary investigation, one of the redundant links connecting to one of the wireless controllers was disabled around 9:00AM to eliminate the intermittent connection problem.  Network Services will investigate further to determine the cause of the link failure.  The areas affected  included the Library, Podium and Jorgenson buildings, as well as 415 Yonge Street.

Scheduled Blackboard outage: Sunday, June 10, 2012 between 6 am and 7 am

On Sunday, June 10, 2012 between 6 am and 7 am, we will apply a software patch that is designed to resolve the Blackboard memory leak issue that has been causing problems since we upgraded to Blackboard 9.1.
Blackboard, RAMSS and SoapBox will not be available during this time frame.

Blackboard application server issues – Thursday, June 5, 2012

At approximately 1 pm today, we started experiencing memory resource issues with one of the five Blackboard application servers. The server crashed and was restarted around 1:10 pm. Users who were connected to this particular server may have had their sessions dropped.

CCS is still working with the vendor to get the official patch for this issue.

415 Yonge St – Network Outage – 2012.06.03 06:45

One of the network distribution switches serving the west side of the campus was rebooted at 6:45 AM to clear up a wireless connectivity issue. Traffic was re-routed to another distribution switch during the 3 minutes of reboot. Because 415 Yonge is off-campus and connected only to that switch without a redundant path, there was a network outage in the building during the reboot.

Blackboard application server experiencing problem: Monday, May 28 2012 12:15 PM

One of the 5 Blackboard application servers is experiencing some problems, and we will be taking it out of the load balanced pool around 1 PM.   Users connected to this application server will not be affected by this action and new connections will be directed to the other application servers.    We will leave the application server up until all current connections expire.

The vendor’s support group has already been contacted and we’re working towards resolution of this issue, which does not seem to be related to the cause of the previous problems that we’ve experienced recently.

Scheduled Ryecast outage: Monday, May 28 8:00 AM – Tuesday, May 29 8:00 AM

The Ryecast system will be upgraded on Monday, May 28, starting at 8 AM.  The upgrade is expected to take less than 24 hours.  While the upgrade takes place the system will not be available.
