Scheduled Blackboard system maintenance – Friday, January 17, 2014, 5 AM – 8 AM

The Blackboard database will be moved to new storage on Friday, January 17, 2014 between 5 AM and 8 AM.  Blackboard will not be available during this period.  All other systems and applications accessed through the my.ryerson portal (including RAMSS) will still be available during this time frame. This change is necessary and it is one hour longer than our regular 6 am to 8 am maintenance window on Friday.

Network outage on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 11:04 AM to 12:22 PM

On Thursday, January 9, 2014, during an attempt to add a VLAN to a network switch, a broadcast storm occurred. This caused a slow down for various services, including CFAPS where user data and shared departmental folders exist. The outage lasted  from 11:04 AM to 11:07 AM and again from 12:19 PM to 12:22 PM.

Network outage on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 2:25 PM – 2:35 PM

On Wednesday, January 8, 2014, during an attempt to add a redundant link to a network switch, a configuration error occurred. This caused a network outage for the One Card readers in the East side of the campus . The outage lasted  from 2:25 PM to 2:35 PM.

Network Outage Sunday 5 January, 2014 from 11:15 to 11:18 PM

On Sunday January 5, 2014, an emergency reboot of the packet shaping appliances had to be done to clear some intermittent memory errors.  This caused a disconnection from the Internet from 11:15 AM to 11:18 PM.

LDAP error: Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 4:25 AM – 9 PM

Starting around 4:25 AM on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, one of the LDAP servers experienced some database indexing problems, causing some e-mail messages to queue up and not be delivered in a timely manner.   The server was rebooted around 9 PM on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 and the queued up e-mail is expected to be delivered within a couple of hours.  We will keep monitoring the system to see if there are any further problems.

Network Outage – Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 10:23 AM to 11:35 AM

On Wednesday December 18, 2013, during an attempt to add a software license for a redundant firewall, the primary firewall stopped passing traffic. This caused a network outage for the wired connections at the library offices, SCC, Architecture, Health Centre, Civil Engineering and JOR. The outage lasted  from 10:23 AM to 11:35 AM.

RMS outage: Admin, Self Service and Activation – Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 10:58 AM – 11:06 AM

The back-end server that all RMS web applications (Admin, Self Service and Activation)  connect to became unresponsive starting at 10:58 AM this morning.  The server was restarted and services were  fully restored at 11:06 AM.  We continue to investigate the cause.  RMS is the system that makes possible account activation at http://www.ryerson.ca/accounts/ and provides the password change, Google Token setup  and other features via “manage my online resources” inside the my.ryerson.ca portal.

Intermittent LDAP authentication failures – Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 07:05 AM AM – 12:30 PM

One of the LDAP servers used to authenticate users logging in to my.ryerson, Blackboard, eHR, Confluence, Jira and other applications experienced intermittent problems between 7:05 AM and 12:30 PM.  Users connected to this server may have received a “incorrect password” message.  This server has been taken out of service for further investigation.

my.ryerson service slow: Wednesday Dec. 4 2013, 6:01 PM – 7:15 PM

At 6:01 PM this afternoon, we received alerts from our internal monitoring system that the my.ryerson.ca portal was responding slowly.  At 7:15 PM, the response time was back to normal. We are continuing to investigate the cause.

RMail service disruption: Sunday, Dec. 1 2013, 11:43 PM

One of the RMail servers experienced a memory fault and crashed at 11:43 PM on Sunday, Dec. 1 2013.   Web Mail (https://mail.ryerson.ca) users connected to this server at the time of the crash would have been disconnected and  required to authenticate again.  Users connected to the other RMail servers were not affected.

This server is no longer servicing new Web Mail connections and a memory module replacement is scheduled later today between 5PM and 7PM.
