my.ryerson.ca service interruption – Nov. 11, 2011 at 8:50 a.m. and 10:05 a.m.

In order to deploy a new portlet on the my.ryerson portal, the uPortal application instances were restarted twice this morning around 8:50 a.m. and around 10:05 a.m. Some users may experienced intermittent access issues to the my.ryerson portal during restart of the servers.

Admin Printing (CFAPS) Service Interruption – Nov. 9 2011, 8:00 AM to 8:50 AM

At approximately 8:40 AM today we became aware that CFAPS printing services were unresponsive.  Services were fully restored around 8:50 AM.   A preliminary investigation indicates a corrupt job to have caused the malfunction of the printing system, affecting Administrative printing starting shortly after 8 AM.   We are continuing the investigation and will also put in place measures to identify this type of problem as it happens.

Virtual Applications (VAPPS) Service Interruption – Nov. 7 2011, 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM

At approximately 9 AM today we became aware that some Virtual Applications (VAPPPS) services were unresponsive. A reboot of the servers was done and services were fully restored around 9:30 AM.

RAMSS system unavailability, Thursday Nov. 3, 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM

Due to problems with the PeopleSoft menu structure RAMSS was not available from approximately 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3rd.

1 Dundas, 16th floor, Network and Phone Outage

The network and phone system on the 16th floor of 1 Dundas are offline after a power outage that ended at 5 AM. The problem appears to be with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)  that did not come back online after city power was restored.

Update (at noon): There have been delays getting access to the secured area in the building where the UPS is. We hope to have access soon.

Update (12:30): We have access but the UPS has lost it configuration information which has to be recovered and tested before it is brought back online.

Update (4:30 PM): Service was restored at 4:30 PM.

my.ryerson.ca login problems – Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM

The Central Authentication Service (CAS) on one of Ryerson’s CAS servers stopped working at approximately 1:15 PM today. The service was restarted at 2:15 PM. During the time the service was unavailable some people were unable to log into the my.ryerson.ca portal.

CCS is investigating the cause of the problem.

Groupwise Web Service Interruption – Oct. 27 2011, 5:40 PM to 7:15 PM

At approximately 5:40 PM one of the  GroupWise servers (GW1) experienced a severe error that disrupted web access to Groupwise, as well as processing of incoming and outgoing e-mail. Services were restored around 7:15 PM.

Intermittent LDAP authentication failures – Wednsday, Oct. 26, 2011 3:50 PM

One of the various load balanced, front end LDAP servers used for service authentication stopped processing authentication requests. This would have been perceived by some users as an intermittent login failure to some applications. Some web based applications that require authentication may have been affected. Blackboard and other critical applications were not affected.

The proxy LDAP server was restarted around 3:50 PM today, and the problem was resolved.

my.ryerson.ca login problem resolved

The Central Authentication System (CAS) that allows you to log into my.ryerson.ca and other systems was brought back online at approximately 8 PM. The problem with the devices that provide encryption (SSL) services for CAS was resolved by reconfiguring the devices. The work also required reissuing SSL certificates.

Can’t Log in to my.ryerson.ca and other systems

The Central Authentication System (CAS) that allows you to log into my.ryerson.ca and other systems is offline due to a hardware problem. The problem is with the device that provides encryption (SSL) services for CAS.  The problem is related to the earlier problem with Webmail and began some time after the Webmail problem was resolved at 4:15.

CCS support staff are working to reconfigure the device.

Update at 7 PM: reconfiguring the SSL accelerator is slow painstaking work. We still don’t have an estimated time to resolve the problem.

Update at 8 PM: We believe the problem is resolved.
