Groupwise Web Service Interruption – Thursday, March 22, 2012 6:15 PM – 6:54 PM

The GroupWise server responsible for providing Web & Internet access to GroupWise became inaccessible at approximately 6:15 PM on Thursday, March 22.  Service was restored at 6:45 PM. We are still investigating the cause of the outage.

Service Interruption Due to Data Centre Firewall Problem – 7:15 am,Tuesday, March 13, 2012 – UPDATE

UPDATE: 10:20 am, Tuesday, March 13, 2012

The problem has been isolated to a departmental server.  The server was sending large amounts of data, causing the firewall to go to high levels of utilization.   The server has since been taken off-line.  Utilization on the firewall has returned to normal.  All servers are back on-line.  Technical Support will be restarting services on the core servers to restore services.

Access to Core applications have been interrupted due to a problem with a firewall.  The following services have been affected; RAMSS, OGF Financials, Ryerson web CMS, CQ, Jira, some Coldfusion web services for CE, TPHI and Spark IM.

IT Security is currently trouble-shooting the problem.

Groupwise web access outage: Wedn., March 07, 2012 8:20 AM – 8:50 AM

The GroupWise Webmail services hung at approximately 8:20 AM today, Wednesday, March 7 2012.   Other services affected on the server included Notifylink updates, access to the document library and inter-post office communication.  An attempt to restart the services was not successful and a reboot of the server was required.    Full services were restored around 8:50 AM.

GroupWise Webmail Services down: Friday, March 2, 2012 5:30 AM

The GroupWise Webmail services went down at approximately 5:30 AM today, Friday, March 2nd 2012.   We are working on the problem and expect services to be restored soon after 9 AM.

Update: Services were fully restored at 9:09AM.

www.ryerson.ca intermittent performance issue: Wednesday, Feb. 29 2012

Since approximately 6:20 AM this morning, CCS has received reports that the www.ryerson.ca website was loading slowly.    We are working with the Web Services team in University Advancement to improve the performance of  the system. Calendar loading performance have been  improved and we will continue to work with the Web Services team and the vendor to improve  performance.

my.ryerson short service interruption: Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 10:17 AM – 10:22 AM

Services on the my.ryerson portal were restarted this morning between 10:17 AM and 10:22 AM to implement a fix related to the problems we experienced  yesterday evening.   The cause of the problem was traced to the Blackboard My Announcements portlet code, which under some circumstances was going into a infinite loop.

my.ryerson.ca service interruption – Feb. 28, 2012 9:23 PM

Starting at approximately 9:23 PM today, CCS began receiving reports that the my.ryerson portal was unavailable.

Update: The service disruption may have actually started earlier, possibly aroud 8PM.   We’re still investigating the incident, but services were restarted and my.ryerson was available around 10:15PM.

Update 10:45 PM: The system began having periodic problems at approximately 7:56 PM and was restarted at 8:40 PM. The problem recurred at 9:10 PM and was not fully resolved until 10:15 PM when a configuration problem was discovered and corrected.

Update Wednesday, Feb. 29 9:05 PM: After the 10:15 PM restart of services, we still had some intermittent problems with the service, which was restarted at 11:30 PM.  In addition, one of the servers was also restarted around 7:00AM this morning.

Webmail service interruption – Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 5:00 PM – 5:20 PM

Some people reported problems accessing RMail via the  Webmail interface today, Monday Feb. 27,  starting at approximately 5 PM.  The problem was resolved around 5:20PM.

The root cause of the problem is still being investigated by technical staff.

This morning the blog.ryerson.ca server (that hosts the servicealerts blog) stopped responding and had to be restarted. CCS is investigating the cause of the outage.
