my.ryerson.ca service disruption: Wednesday Dec. 5, 4:45 PM – 5:30 PM

One of the portal application servers  started experiencing problems around 4:45 PM today,  Wednesday, December 5th, causing users directed to the server to experience slow response or possibly an error message.      The application was restarted on the server and services restored at 5:30 PM.  We are continuing to investigate the root cause of the problem.

Intermittent Campus Printing Service (CPS): Tuesday, Nov. 28 2012 8:16 AM – 9:16 AM

Web based Campus Printing Service (CPS) periodically generated errors when users submitted print  jobs online from 8:16 AM to 9:16 AM this morning.  A restart of the application resolved the issue.

New Gmail compose and reply features – November 27, 2012

Google has rolled out a new Gmail compose and reply feature. When  Ryerson Gmail users login to their accounts, they will notice a new popup window asking them to try out the new compose experience.

my.ryerson.ca and CAS service interruption: Tuesday Nov. 27 00:00 AM – 00:15 AM

Due to an issue with an Oracle database process, a planned service interruption is being scheduled for approximately 15 minutes, starting tonight at midnight.  During this period Ryerson’s Central Authentication System (CAS) will be unavailable. While applications accessed through my.ryerson.ca (including  RAMSS, Blackboard, eHR, and Google Apps) will continue to work, no one will be able to log into them during the 15 minute outage.

Update to the Sophos Anti-Virus issue – Friday, November 16, 2012

As announced on September 20, 2012 on the Service Alerts Blog (http://servicealerts.blog.ryerson.ca/2012/09/20/sohpos-anti-virus-software-thursday-september-20-2012/), a corrupted virus definition file was pushed by the vendor to all Sophos clients. This followed up by another virus definition update that corrected the issue. However, CCS noticed that some computers have not recovered and Sophos is not working for these computers.

You know that you are still affected if:

  • You still see new Sophos alerts for the shh/Updater-B virus
  • You have Sophos updating problems, for example the Sophos icon missing from the system tray or the hidden tray items
  • If you open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control and the date of “Last Update” is more than a week old

The easiest way to fix this problem is to open “Sophos Endpoint Security and Control”, disable the “on-access scanning” feature, restore the detected items from quarantine, clear the list, and then re-install Sophos from http://www.ryerson.ca/ccs/software/downloads/security/index.html

blog.ryerson.ca problem – Monday, Nov. 12 2012 18:40 PM – 22:15 PM

At approximately 6:40 PM on Monday, November 2012, the blog.ryerson.ca service became unresponsive due to a spike in memory and CPU utilization on the server.  CCS has been investigating the problem but has not yet been able to identify the root cause of the problem.

Academic printing outage in TRS: Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 6:30PM-7:05PM

Printing services were reported unavailable in TRS at approximately 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 18.  On-call support staff were contacted and the problem was resolved around 7:05 PM.
