Partial Shutdown of Kerr Hall West 71 Computer Lab – July 9, 10, 11 2013

Following a request from Toronto Hydro, (see below) CCS is shutting down most of the computers in Kerr Hall West 71 to reduce power consumption. While some machines will still be available, students may wish to try the Information Commons in the Library before trying to find a free computer in Kerr Hall West 71.

The severe storm that swept across much of the GTA yesterday has
damaged the electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure
serving the City of Toronto.  As of 9 am this morning, approximately
20,000 customers remain without power. Toronto Hydro-Electric System
Limited (Toronto Hydro) emergency crews continue with power restoration
efforts.
While both Toronto Hydro and Hydro One crews work hard to restore power
as quickly as possible, one of the two transformer stations (Manby
Transformer Station) currently serving the city is out of service due to
severe flooding.  To overcome the loss of supply, electrical loads have
been temporarily switched to the Leaside Transformer Station.
For this reason, the system is not yet stabilized and during this
volatile period Toronto Hydro and the IESO are appealing to all

have a tremendous and immediate impact on power requirements and we

eHR system outage: Monday, Jul 08 2013 midnight – 7:00 AM

An eHR database backup process aborted unexpectedly overnight, leaving the database shutdown from midnight to approximately 7:00 AM this morning, when a restart of the system was done.   The root cause of the problem will be investigated.

Gmail Service Disruption: Wednesday, June 26, 2013 2:47 PM – 3:05 PM

According to Google’s Apps Status Dashboard,  between 2:47 PM and 3:05 PM today (Wednesday, June 26, 2013), users were receiving error 793 while sending emails through the Gmail web interface.  We have received reports that some people at Ryerson have seen similar errors and were affected by this Gmail service disruption. IM/Spark service disruption: Friday, June 21 2013 06:19 AM – 09:56 AM

Due to a missing firewall rule,  IM/Spark (the instant messenger service) stopped to accept new connections this morning , Friday June 21, at 6:19 AM. Existing users sessions were not impacted. The rule was added at 9:56 AM and the service was restored.

Network Outage: Wednesday, June 19, 2013, 3:15 PM to 3:55 PM

On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, between 3:15 PM and 3:55 PM,  a network loop occurred that disabled the network links to the TRS, JOR and YNG buildings. Network Services is investigating the source of the loop.

Groupwise Archives Post Office 4 outage:Wed., June 19, 2013 12:01 PM — 1:14 PM

A disk array hosting Groupwise Post Office 4 failed at 12:01 PM today.  The disk was migrated to a replacement chassis and services were restored at 1:14 PM.  The affected user community includes University Advancement, University Business Services, Finance,  University Planning Office and the Access Centre. The affected users were not able to access their GroupWise archives.

Gmail service disruption: Monday, June 17 2013 02:33 AM – 03:22 AM

According to Google’s Apps Status Dashboard, approximately 1.03% of Gmail users received a 502 error when attempting to log in to Gmail between 2:33 AM and 3:22 AM today, Monday, June 17, 2013.   It is possible that some Ryerson users may have been affected by this Gmail service disruption.

CAS/my.ryerson Service Disruption: Friday, June 14 2013 9:33 AM – 9:42 AM

A data replication issue with the Central Authentication System (CAS) caused intermittent login problems starting at approximately 9:33 AM.   CAS services were restarted and full services were restored at 9:42 AM.  We are continuing to investigate this issue.

VoIP Phones Outage: Friday June 7, 2013 07:07 AM – 8:50 AM

The Signaling Server for VoIP phones stopped working on Friday June 7, 2013 at 7:07 AM and had to be rebooted.  The outage impacted all of the VoIP phones on campus. Service was restored at 8:50 AM
