Brightspace by D2L intermittent access issues: Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Since this morning, Wednesday,  August 5, 2015 some users have reported issues when trying to access Brightspace by D2L.  At times, they will receive an “Unauthorized Access” error message, and other times they were able to login.  Sometimes it can take several attempts to access Brightspace. The issue has been escalated to D2L and they are currently working on the issue. We will provide an update when we have more information.

Update 2015-08-06: The problem has been resolved by D2L. The following is an update from their service desk:

“The issue has been fixed by our Network Operating Center.

The fix was done at about 1:40 AM EST. The issue was Server Time sync issue as one of your Webservers time was not in sync with the rest. “

CFAPs name resolution failure July 30 to August 4, 2015

Due to a recent change in DNS configuration for PC users on CFAPs, the host name resolution of any domain other than “admn” or “ac” failed. The change was reverted back on August 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM and will take effect on users’ PC automatically within 90 minutes

Ryecast Outage – Friday July 24, 2015

We are experiencing errors when trying to replay Ryecast videos.

We have contacted the vendor and are investigating to try to determine the source of the issue.

We will provide an update when we have more information.

Gmail Service Delay – Thursday, July 23, 2015

At 1:20 PM, Google is reporting a service issue with Gmail. Affected users will experience delays in message delivery. CCS has also received email delay reports from users.

Gmail delays – Wednesday, July 22, 2015

At Approximately 2PM on Wednesday July 22, 2015, Google reported service issues with  Gmail and Google Groups.  The gmail issues caused delays in delivery of some messages being sent to ryerson.ca addresses.

The Issues were resolved by Google at 4:17 PM

DNS outage for Windows Admn & AC domains on July 16, 2015

On Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 12:15 AM, a change in DNS servers configuration prevented users from being able to logon to their PCs . Firewall rules were properly adjusted and services resumed at 8:45 AM.

HR service outage: Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Around 8:45 AM, we became aware of communication problems to the HR reporting database.  The problem was traced to a  configuration change introduced in the HR system.  A restart of the HR system was required at approximately 10:00 AM to clear caches and resolve the problem.

RMS outage – Admin, Self Service and Activation – Monday July 6, 2015 12:16 PM – 1:04 PM

The back-end server that all RMS web applications (Admin, Self Service and Activation)  connect to became unresponsive due to an out of memory error at 12:16 PM.  The application services were restarted and full services were restored at 1:04 PM.  We continue to investigate the root cause.  RMS is the system that makes possible account activation at http://www.ryerson.ca/accounts/ and provides the password change, Google Token setup  and other features via “manage my online resources” inside the my.ryerson.ca portal.

WiFi interruption at POD & JOR on Wednesday June 24, 2015

On Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 08:50 AM, the wireless network in the POD & JOR buildings became unstable due to a faulty network switch port.  Network Services moved the traffic through a different port and services resumed at 9:50.

Update:

For some users the issue remained unstable. The wireless controller had to be rebooted at 11:40 AM to force clearing the sessions for these users.

Intermittent WiFi on May 26, 2015

On Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 08:40 AM, the wireless network at the East side of the campus became unstable.  The Network Services team is troubleshooting the issue.

Update:

At 1:19 PM one of the wireless controllers was rebooted and services resumed
