Groupwise (GWPOS3) service interruption – Aug. 15, 2012 5:30 AM – 7:30 AM

The nightly scheduled reboot of the GroupWise server GWPOS3 did not complete normally and a forced reboot was required this morning.    Services were restored at approximately 7:30 AM.

The outage affected e-mail services for Schools (faculty and some admin staff).

Groupwise partial service outage: Thursday, August 9, 2012 06:40 AM – 06:50 AM

The GroupWise server (GW1) providing web client access & Internet mail delivery services was rebooted this morning to clear a system problem.  Services were unavailable between 6:40 AM – 6:50 AM.

Intermittent LDAP authentication failures – Friday, July 27, 2012 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM

Various LDAP servers used for authentication experienced high CPU load this morning, causing intermittent response for various applications, includuing my.ryerson, Blackboard, eHR, Confluence, Jira and others.   The problem started around 8:00 AM and was resolved around 9:30 AM, following a server reboot of all the LDAP servers.

Intermittent Connectivity to Wireless Users Across Campus – July 26, 2012 – 13:45 PM

A defective blade in a WDS (Wireless Distribution Switch) was noticed at approximately 13:45 today. This caused intermittent connectivity to wireless users across campus. The blade was replaced at approximately 14:00 and connectivity is now stable.

sharedata service disruption: Tuesday, July 24 2012 11:30 PM – 11:35 PM

A 5 minute interruption of the CFAPS sharedata (S: drive) services will be experienced tonight, Tuesday, July 24 2012, starting at ~11:30 PM, to allow for the increase of system resources on the server (memory).

my.ryerson.ca, Blackboard, eHR, RAMSS service disruption: Friday, July 20 2012 7:21 AM – 7:34 AM

A scheduled firewall upgrade carried out this morning temporarily disrupted my.ryerson and applications accessed through the portal, including Blackboard, eHR and RAMSS.    The service disruption started around 7:21 AM and lasted until 7:34 AM.

GroupWise web service interruption & mail delivery delay: Wednesday, July 18, 2012 08:30 AM – 08:53 AM

A GroupWise service hung at approximately 8:30 AM today, Wednesday, June 18, causing a short delay in mail delivery.    The affected server (GW1) was rebooted and full services restored around 8:53 AM.   During the server reboot, 8:45 AM – 8:53 AM, web client access to GroupWise was not available.

RAMSS, Confluence, Jira unavailable Friday, July 13, 2012

A scheduled firewall upgrade was not successful and technical staff had to back out of the change.   However, some applications did not recover properly.   RAMSS, Confluence and Jira were affected.   RAMSS services were restored around 9:16 am. Confluence and Jira services were restored around 9:20 am. The issue was reported at 8:42 am and our technical and support teams are investigating the root cause.

General Network Slow Response – July 10, 2012 08:15 AM

At approximately 8:15 am today, CCS started receiving reports of a general slow response when accessing core Ryerson applications as well as the Internet.

Preliminary investigation indicates the problem to be with the network core firewall cluster.  CCS IT Security staff are investigating the problem.

UPDATE:  The root cause of the problem has been identified.  Normal services  have been restored as of ~ 9:10 AM.  A review of the system logs indicate that the problem may have started around 2:15 AM.

AMC Theatre, Bookstore, and Digital Media Zone Network Outage – July 1

Late last night all connectivity to the Digital Media Zone in 10 Dundas, along with the AMC Theatres, and the Bookstore was lost. It was determined and confirmed this morning via a site visit that somewhere in an underground tunnel the fiber links to all these locations has been severely damaged or severed.

Although Ryerson has a high degree of network redundancy we do not have have fiber redundancy to all the switches in all buildings.

We do not have an estimated time to repair at this time and apologize for the disruption this outage will cause.

Update July 1, 2012 at 14:20: CCS staff will not be able to enter the tunnel system until the morning of July 2 to do a more complete inspection.

Update July 2, 2012 at 12:20: The cable damage was caused by rodents that got into a cable box and chewed through the cable. Staff estimate repairs will be complete later this afternoon.

Update July 2, 2012 at 12:42: Service was restored just after 12 noon today.
