Wireless authentication failure on Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 7:50 AM

On Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 7:50 AM, CCS monitoring systems indicated there is a very large number of wireless devices failing to authenticate. Network Services team is investigating the issue.

Update 3:35 PM: Despite working with our wireless vendor we have not been able to isolate the problem beyond the fact that the login process is not working. As a temporary solution we are working towards making available a separate wireless network called RU-Wireless. Please use it once it becomes available until we resolve the problem with RU-Secure.

Update @ 11:20 AM, Wed, Sept. 5: The RU-Secure network is available and we are monitoring it closely. Once RU-Secure has shown to be fully stable, the temporary RU-Wireless network will be turned off. At that time, please use RU-Secure. The problem was traced to how our wireless system was communicating with the servers it uses to validate usernames and passwords.

Update @ 12:58 AM, Wed, Sept. 5: The RU-Wireless temporary network has been shut down. Please connect to RU-Secure. If you have never successfully connected to RU-Secure please see our online instructions.

We apologize for the problems this outage has caused.

Hi there, in addition, my wifi requires me to enter EAP method, Phase 2 authentication (options are None, MSCHAPV2 and GTC), CA certificate, domain and only after that my ID. I don’t know which option to choose for all those above and cannot connect. I hadn’t changed anything during the weekend as I wasn’t on campus. Thank you.

Is there an ETA as to when this will be fixed? Reported at 7:50AM… it’s now 10:30AM and the problem still hasn’t been resolved. People have work to do… classes are in session and people need access to the Internet.

Username ID for WIfI on mobile = username@ryerson.ca or just username

  4. Nancy says:

    Hi,

Is this issue fixed yet? I can connect to RU-Secure on my laptop, but not on my phone for some reason.

    • Brian Lesser says:

We are working on bringing up a second network named RU-Wireless as a temporary alternative to RU-Secure. I am sorry this problem is taking so long to resolve.

  5. Whisper says:

It’s still out and it is currently 2 pm. There is classes and readings that need the internet. Every time I try to use it, it says I have an incorrect password when I don’t, will I need to change my account password or will this issue be fixed.

Any updates? I have planned a lot of activities for my class today where the students need wifi. Should we just assume they will be impossible?

Thank you for setting up the alternate network and keeping us all up to date!

Many thanks for your understanding! We are really sorry this happened and will be working to make sure this problem never reappears.

Could CCS inform us when the problem has been fixed please?
