Ryerson Web Site Back online at 4:35 PM September 18, 2011

Ryerson’s Web site is back online as of 4:35 PM today (Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011). The outage which began at 6:30 AM this morning was a result of maintenance conducted on Friday and Saturday evening. The maintenance forced the system to republish all the HTML pages on the system. The process began early this morning and was complete at 4:35 PM. We are investigating why republishing took so long and how maintenance can be done without long outages in the future.

At approximately 6:30 am, this morning, the ryerson.ca website was unavailable. CCS support personnel have been notified.

Update: the problem was resolved at 4:35 PM.

Update – Campus Wireless Service Interruption – 6:38 pm, September 14, 2011

During this period of instability on the wireless network, users may suddenly find that they’ve lost connectivity to the wireless network. If this happens, please log back into the wireless network. Depending on the OS of the computer, users may be required to turn off and then turn back on the wireless radio.

CCS continues to work with the manufacturer to resolve this problem.

Campus Wireless Interruption 1:40 pm, September 14, 2011

At 1:40 pm there was a repeat of yesterday’s interruption to the wireless service. However, this time it was campus wide. CCS personnel are trouble-shooting with the manufacturer to rectify the problem.

Groupwise issues – Admin users. Sept. 14, 2011 – 10:30 AM – 12:00 Noon

This morning between 10:30 and 12:00 noon (September, 14, 2001) we experienced slow performance and intermittent disconnects on one of the Groupwise  mail servers hosting the Administrative users.

The root cause was a large number of email and calendar delete requests.

my.ryerson.ca service disruption: Sept. 14, 2011 7:15 am – 7:50 am

One of the my.ryerson.ca portal servers started experiencing some problems around 7:15 AM today (Sept. 14, 2011), causing a few users to experience timeouts at login time and loading the portal page.  The application was restarted at 7:50 AM and full services were restored.   We are still investigating the cause of the problem.

TRS Wireless Interruptions – 4:37 pm, September 13, 2011

Since 9:20AM today, the wireless network in TRS has been working intermittently. CCS will continue to trouble-shoot to identify the root cause.

Ryerson Web site service disruption, Sept. 13, 9:30 AM – 12:27 PM

One of the www.ryerson.ca application tiers stopped responding around 9:30 AM today.   Services were briefly restored around 10:05 AM but went down again after 15 minutes.   We’re continuing to investigate the issue and engaging vendor support to assist us to resolve the problem ASAP.

Update: The site was brought back online at roughly 12 noon today. We are working with the vendor (Adobe) to reduce the possibility of a recurrence.

SPSS access problem, Sept. 12, 2011

On Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 we became aware that the license key for SPSS was restricting multiple users from accessing the application at the same time.  A new key was requested and activated today, Monday Sept. 12 around 2:15 PM.  Our testing indicates that multiple users can now access SPSS concurrently.  However, we are seeing some errors when launching SPSS from VAPPS, and we’re continuing to investigate the issue.

Printing problem in TRS labs, Sept. 09, 2011 noon – 2:00 PM

At approximately noon, print jobs in the Ted Rogers School building started queuing up on the server.   Printing was working normally elsewhere.  Following some investigation, the ITC interfaces (black boxes) used for the charge back page count were rebooted and fixed the problem.   We’re not sure what could have caused the problem in TRS only, as we have similar interfaces elsewhere and they were unaffected.   The problem was resolved around 2 PM.
