Network traffic coming into Ryerson including peer-to-peer and file downloading is now being controlled as normal.
The new packet shaping device that replaced the unit that failed last Thursday started prioritizing traffic at 8:30 PM Tuesday November 9. As soon as traffic shaping was enabled, the amount of data flowing across Ryerson’s gateway to the Internet was cut almost in half. The additional bandwidth is now available for other Internet applications so that people attempting to access Web sites should not experience the kind of delays and timeouts that have occurred since Thursday.
