Ryerson Gmail Service interruption on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017

On Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 starting at approximately 10:00 AM emails to Ryerson GMail users were not delivered. This service disruption only applies to Ryerson GMail and does not impact the other Ryerson Google Services such as Google Drive, Google Calendar and Google Hangout. CCS is investigating the issue.

Update (1:33PM): The issue was resolved at 11:55 AM this morning. The root cause was a network routing issue that was a side effect of a network change made earlier this morning.

D2L Brightspace system was briefly down on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017

The D2L Brightspace system at Ryerson University was unavailable today, Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 from 12:11 PM to 12:24 PM.

We have notified D2L Network Operations Center (NOC) who is looking at the cause of this brief outage.

Wireless outage on Wednesday October 11, 2017 from 3:15 AM to 7:40 AM

On Wednesday October 11, 2017, at 3:15 AM the wireless authentication servers stopped processing new authentication requests. This prevented users from accessing the WiFi networks. The Network Services team restarted the servers and services resumed at 7:40 AM.

Wireless interruption on Wednesday, Sept 27, 2017 at 10:40 AM

At 10:40 AM a Wireless Distribution Switch (WDS) stopped forwarding Wireless Access Points (WAPs) keep-alive heartbeats to their home wireless controllers. As a result all affected WAPs failed over to their backup wireless controllers to re-establish connectivity. WDS returned to service at 10:48 at which time the affected wireless access points started the process of migrating back to their home controllers. The resultant re-convergence of the wireless access points resulted in intermittent wireless service as network connectivity was re-established. Full service returned as of 11:10 AM. Network Engineering will be conducting a further investigation into this network switch issue.

D2L Brightspace Intermittent Access on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, The D2L Network Operations Center (NOC) advised that an infrastructure event in their facility may be impacting access to our learning environment. Due to this issue some users may not be able to access D2L Brightspace. The D2L Support Team is fully engaged and working on this issue.

We sincerely apologize for the impact this disruption may cause. We will follow up with further updates as they become available.

UPDATE: The D2L system has been stable since 11:50 AM. The D2L Support Team will continue to monitor closely.

UPDATE 2: D2L NOC advises previous issues have returned. Intermittent access or errors may still be experienced. D2L is working on resolving this issue.

UPDATE 3: The D2L system has been stable since 1:25 PM. The D2L Support Team will continue to monitor closely.

Applications outage on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at 4:06 AM

Starting at  4:06 AM, on Thursday, August 29, 2017, a main database went to Read-Only mode. This is impacting access to many of Ryerson’s applications such as jobs on campus, research grant and housing. CCS technical administrators are currently investigating the problem.

Update:

The issue was traced  to a defective storage controller where many databases are stored such as HR and www. Databases were recovered and all services resumed at 9:45

Update 2:

During a scheduled replacement of the defective storage controller on Wednesday afternoon a few applications experienced an unplanned outage, including RMail, research grant and housing.   The impact lasted from approximately  6:30 PM to 8 PM.

www.ryerson.ca outage – Wednesday, August 23, 2017 10:22 AM

On Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at about 10:22 A.M. the www.ryerson.ca website became unavailable. Services were restored at about 10:35 A.M.

Network interruption on Wednesday July 26, 2017 from 2:52 to 3:20 PM

On Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 2:52 PM, a network device failed to handle the traffic going though it. This prevented access to many of Ryerson’s servers such as my.ryerson.ca and www.ryerson.ca. Services resumed at 3:20 PM.

Network outage at SMH building on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 9:50 AM

On Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 9:50 PM, CCS received alerts that the network at SMH building is down. Network Services team is investigating the issue.

Update:

Power loss was the cause of the outage, Network Services rebooted the Power Supply and services resumed at 10:25 AM

WiFi interruption on Tuesday July 18, 2017 from 5 AM to 9 AM

On Tuesday July 18, 2017 at 5:00 AM, many wireless access points in the East side of the campus went offline. This had little to no impact on WiFi access as there were many other wireless access points in these areas to cover the light load at that time. These wireless access point were brought up by 9:00 AM.
